Part A
Terms of Service
What you agree to by using paradoxlabs.dev, buying from it, or selling on it.
If you bought a plugin from another developer
Plugins on our marketplace are sold by independent developers, each with their own payment account. Your money goes to them, not to us — we take no share of it.
That means refunds, disputes and support for that plugin are handled by that developer, and Paradox Labsand its partners are not responsible or liable for another developer’s acts or omissions. Section 6 sets this out in full.
1 Who we are
Paradox Labs builds and sells Rust plugins and related software, takes commissioned development work, runs a marketplace for independent plugin developers, and operates the paradoxlabs.devwebsite and an associated Discord community. In these terms, “we,” “us” and “our” mean Paradox Labs.
Reach us at discord.paradoxlabs.dev, which is where support, refunds and appeals should go and where we answer fastest. Formal legal notice may also be sent to Paradox Labs, 14702 Excelsior Blvd, Box 1b, Minnetonka, MN 55345, United States.
2 Acceptance
By using anything we operate — visiting the site, joining our Discord, buying a product, or downloading, installing or running our software — you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree, do not use them.
If you are using our services on behalf of a business or community, you confirm you have authority to bind it, and “you” includes that organisation.
3 Eligibility and age
- →You must be at least 13 to use our services.
- →Between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you may use them only with a parent or guardian's consent and supervision, and only that adult may make purchases.
- →Purchases may only be made by someone 18 or over, or by a minor with the express permission of the person who owns the payment method.
- →Our services are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If we learn a user is under 13 we will close the account and delete the data — see the Privacy Policy.
- →You may not use our services if you have previously been banned, or if you are barred by law or by the terms of a platform you need to reach them (Steam or Discord, for instance).
4 Accounts and identifiers
You are identified by your Discord account, your Steam ID, or an email address, depending on the service. You are responsible for everything done under your account, for keeping your credentials secure, and for the accuracy of the identifiers you give us at checkout — a licence delivered to an identifier you typed wrongly is your responsibility, though we will help where we reasonably can.
Accounts are personal. Sharing, selling, renting or transferring them is not allowed, and neither is using alternate accounts to evade a ban, dodge a limit, or take a discount twice.
5 Rules of conduct
These apply everywhere we operate. The list is illustrative, not exhaustive.
- →Do not redistribute, resell, leak or publish software licensed to you. See section 8.
- →Do not harass, threaten, dox or abuse anyone, or post content that is illegal or targets people over race, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or any other protected characteristic.
- →Do not attempt unauthorised access, denial-of-service, mass scraping, security probing, or interference with anyone else's use of the services.
- →Do not impersonate our staff, our developers, or another user.
- →Do not advertise other stores or communities without permission.
- →Do not knowingly exploit a bug instead of reporting it, including in licensing or checkout.
- →Do not file knowingly false reports, appeals or disputes, or abuse the refund process.
- →Do not evade a ban, mute or suspension by any means.
Our Discord is also governed by Discord’s own terms and community guidelines; breaking those breaks these. Moderation decisions are ours, subject to the appeal route in section 12.
6 The marketplace and independent sellers
Some plugins sold through paradoxlabs.dev are ours. Others are sold by independent developers who list their work on our marketplace. Every product page names its seller, so you can always see who you are buying from before you buy.
6.1 Each seller has their own payment account
A marketplace developer is paid directly into their own payment account — their own Stripe account, or their own PayPal. Your payment goes to that developer. It does not pass through us and we take no share of it.
Paradox Labs is not the merchant of record for those sales, is not the seller, and is not a party to your contract with that developer. Your contract is with them. The only money we take from a marketplace developer is a flat monthly membership fee, which has nothing to do with what you paid.
6.2 Refunds and disputes go to the seller
All refunds, chargebacks, billing questions and support for a marketplace developer’s plugin are handled by that developer. We cannot refund a payment we never received, and we have no access to their payment account.
Contact the developer first, through the contact route on their product page or in our Discord. If you cannot reach them, tell us at discord.paradoxlabs.dev — we will try to put you in touch and we may act against a seller who ignores their customers, but we cannot issue the refund ourselves.
6.3 We are not liable for another developer's actions
To the fullest extent the law allows, Paradox Labs, its owners, partners, staff and contractors are not responsible or liable for the acts, omissions, software, statements, support, refunds, data handling, or legal compliance of any independent developer selling on our marketplace.
That includes any loss, damage, downtime, data loss, or cost arising from a plugin they wrote or failed to maintain. A claim about a marketplace developer’s product or conduct lies against that developer, not against us or our partners.
6.4 What we do do — and what it is not
We review builds from developers who have not yet earned our trusted badge: we download the file and run it before it is released. Once a developer has that badge, their releases publish without that step.
This is quality control done on a reasonable-efforts basis. It is not a warranty, certification, audit or guarantee that any plugin is free of defects, secure, compatible with your server, or fit for your purpose. Reviewing something does not make us its seller or its author, and does not transfer any of the responsibility in 6.2 or 6.3 to us.
6.5 If a seller leaves
If a developer stops selling here — they cancel, lapse, or we remove them — their plugins come off sale to new buyers. If you already bought one, your download and licence keep working. What we cannot promise is that they will keep updating it, answering support, or handling refunds after they leave.
7 Purchases, payments and refunds
This section covers our ownproducts. For a marketplace developer’s plugin, section 6 governs and their own terms may apply as well.
7.1 What you are buying
A licence to use software, as described in section 8 — not a physical good and not ownership of the software.
7.2 Payment processing
Payments are handled by third-party processors, currently Stripe and PayPal. We never receive or store your full card number. Your use of a processor is governed by that processor’s own terms and privacy policy.
7.3 Prices, taxes and currency
Prices are shown in the currency stated on the product page. The price shown at checkout is the price that applies. You are responsible for any taxes, duties, or conversion and foreign-transaction charges your payment provider applies.
7.4 Delivery
Downloads and licence keys are normally available immediately after payment. If a purchase has not arrived within 24 hours, contact us with your transaction reference and we will deliver it or refund it.
Payments made by manual transfer — where a product is paid by PayPal.Me with a reference code — are confirmed by a person, so they are not instant. If you forget the reference code, open a ticket at discord.paradoxlabs.dev and we will match it by hand.
7.5 Refunds on our own products
Software is delivered immediately and cannot be returned, so sales are final except where we say otherwise here or where consumer law requires it. We will refund where:
- →the product was never delivered and we cannot deliver it;
- →you were charged twice, or charged in error;
- →the product was materially misdescribed at the point of sale;
- →a refund is required by the consumer protection law that applies to you.
We do not refund for change of mind, for a ban that followed a breach of these terms, for a Rust or Oxide update that breaks compatibility, or for dissatisfaction with a product that works as described.
7.6 Chargebacks
Talk to us before disputing a charge. Nearly everything is sorted out in a day. Raising a chargeback without contacting us first is a breach of these terms, and we may revoke the licence, ban the account, refuse future purchases, and recover the disputed amount and any fees charged to us. Access can be restored if the dispute is withdrawn and our costs are repaid.
For a marketplace developer’s product, a chargeback is between you and that developer’s payment processor. We may still remove your access to the product on their instruction.
7.7 Subscriptions
Where a service is billed monthly, you authorise the recurring charge until you cancel. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the paid period, does not refund that period, and leaves your access in place until it ends. We will give notice before any price rise so you can cancel instead.
8 Software and plugin licensing
This applies to every plugin, bot, tool or application we distribute, whether written by us or bought through the marketplace, unless a seller’s own licence says otherwise.
What you get. A limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and run the software on server(s) you own or lawfully control, for the scope you purchased. You may configure it, edit its configuration and language files, and modify the source for your own use on your own servers.
What you may not do. Redistribute, resell, sublicense, lease, rent or share it or any derivative, with or without charge; publish it to any repository, marketplace, forum, leak site or file host; remove or falsify copyright notices, licence headers or authorship; circumvent licence validation or usage limits; or use it to run a service that redistributes the software itself.
Licence keys and activations. Some products are tied to your hardware and allow a limited number of activations, shown on the product page. Sharing a key is a breach of this section and may revoke it.
Support and updates. Provided on a reasonable-efforts basis, in English, with no guaranteed response time unless separately agreed. Facepunch can change Rust at any time in a way that breaks a plugin; that is not a defect and does not entitle you to a refund, though we and our developers generally do fix them.
Your responsibilities as a server owner. Your server, your players, your configuration, your backups, and your own legal compliance — including your own terms and privacy notice for your players — are yours. We are not a party to your relationship with your players.
The licence ends automatically if you breach this section, and you must then stop using the software and delete every copy.
9 Selling on Paradox Labs
This section applies if you sell on our marketplace rather than buy from it.
- →You are an independent seller, not our employee, agent, partner or joint venturer. Nothing here creates any of those.
- →You are paid directly into your own payment account. You are the merchant of record for your sales, and you own the relationship with your customers.
- →You are responsible for your own refunds, chargebacks, disputes, customer support, taxes and legal compliance.
- →We charge a flat monthly membership fee and take no percentage of your sales.
- →Until you earn the trusted badge, every build you upload is reviewed by a person before release. We may decline to release a build, and we will tell you why.
- →You warrant that you own or have the right to sell everything you list, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or contain malicious code.
- →You indemnify us as set out in section 17, including for claims brought by your own customers.
- →If your membership lapses, your products come off sale to new buyers. Everyone who already bought keeps their download and licence, and you remain responsible for supporting them.
- →We may remove a listing or end your seller account for a breach of these terms, for a pattern of unresolved customer complaints, or where we reasonably believe it necessary to protect buyers.
10 Partner server listings
This section applies to partner servers: game server communities that pay a monthly fee to be listed on our servers page. A listing is advertising space. It is not an endorsement, a partnership, or a statement that we have inspected or approved anything about that community.
- →The community operates its own server. We do not host it, administer it, moderate it, or control what happens on it.
- →Anything you buy or donate on a partner server is a transaction with that community, not with us. We take no part in it, and refunds, disputes and support for it are between you and them.
- →We are not liable for the conduct of a partner server, its staff or its players, or for any loss arising from playing on one — the limits in section 16 apply here too.
- →Listing owners are responsible for keeping their listing accurate, and for having the right to use every name, image and mark on it.
- →The listing fee is a monthly subscription, billed in advance and cancellable at any time; it is covered by the subscription and refund terms in section 7.
- →If the subscription lapses, the listing comes off the servers page. Its content is kept, and the listing returns when a plan is started again.
- →We may remove a listing at any time — for an inaccurate or dead connect address, for content that breaks section 5, or where we reasonably believe it necessary to protect players. We will give a reason, and where there is time to, we will ask first.
11 Commissioned work
Where you commission custom development, the quote we accept sets the scope, price, and delivery expectations, and takes precedence over this section if they conflict. Unless the quote says otherwise: payment terms are as stated on the invoice; ownership of custom work transfers on full payment; we retain the right to reuse general techniques and non-client-specific components; and a change of scope may change the price and the date.
11.1 Custom work is built for you, and we do not resell it
A plugin we build to your brief is built for your server. We do not sell it, list it on our store, give it to another customer, or bundle it into anything else, unless we have told you we intend to and you have agreed — normally as part of the quote, and usually reflected in what you paid for it.
Two things this does not mean, said plainly so there is no surprise later. It does not stop us reusing general techniques, patterns and non-client-specific building blocks we would use on any job — nobody can commission the exclusive rights to a way of writing code. And it does not apply to anything already on our store that we install, adapt or configure for you: that is an existing product, licensed to you under section 8, and it remains on sale.
Where we do intend to sell a commissioned plugin more widely, we will say so before you accept the quote, not afterwards.
12 Suspension, termination and appeals
We may warn, mute, suspend, ban, revoke a licence, or close an account where these terms are breached, or where we reasonably believe it necessary to protect our services, our users, or a third party. We may also discontinue a service.
On termination your licences end, and you must stop using the software and not attempt to evade the decision. Sections 6, 7.6, 8, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 survive.
You may appeal within 14 days of the deactivation through discord.paradoxlabs.dev, quoting your Discord or Steam ID. Appeals are reviewed by a person and our decision on appeal is final. Bans for redistribution, chargeback abuse, or content involving minors are not normally eligible.
You may stop using our services at any time.
13 Intellectual property
We keep all right, title and interest in our name, logos, branding, website, source code, documentation and related intellectual property. “Paradox Labs” and our logos are ours; you may not use them except to refer to us accurately and without implying endorsement. A marketplace developer keeps the rights in their own work.
Third parties.Rust is by Facepunch Studios. Steam is Valve’s. Oxide/uMod is a third-party framework. Discord is Discord Inc.’s. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them, and a ban imposed by them is theirs, not ours, and cannot be appealed to us.
Your content. You keep ownership of what you post — messages, tickets, screenshots, feedback. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display it as needed to run and promote the service. Feedback and suggestions may be used freely without obligation or compensation.
Copyright complaints. If you believe something here infringes your copyright, send a DMCA notice to discord.paradoxlabs.dev identifying the work and the material, with your contact details, a good-faith statement, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you are authorised to act. We remove infringing material and terminate repeat infringers.
14 Third-party services
Our services depend on Steam, Facepunch, Oxide/uMod, Discord, payment processors, hosting providers and content delivery networks. We do not control them and are not responsible for their availability, security, pricing or policies. Links to other sites are for convenience and are not an endorsement.
15 Disclaimers
The services and all software are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranty of any kind.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the services will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that defects will be corrected, that data will not be lost, or that any plugin will remain compatible with future versions of Rust or Oxide.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you.
16 Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost server population, or business interruption, arising from or relating to the services, on any theory, even if we were told such damages were possible.
Our total liability for all claims will not exceed the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or fifty US dollars.
We are not liable for the acts or omissions of an independent marketplace developer, and liability between us and any such developer is several, not joint. See section 6.3.
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
17 Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold harmless Paradox Labs, its owners, partners, staff and contractors from any claim, loss, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the services, your content, your breach of these terms, your breach of any law or third-party right, or — if you sell here — your products, your customers, and your own compliance obligations.
18 Dispute resolution
Please read this section carefully. It affects your legal rights.
Talk to us first. Before starting any formal claim, contact us at discord.paradoxlabs.dev and try in good faith to resolve it. If it is not resolved within 60 days, either of us may proceed.
Where a claim goes. If talking it through does not resolve it, a claim is brought in the state or federal courts located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. We both consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts and agree that venue is proper there.
Small claims. Either of us may instead bring a qualifying individual claim in small claims court. It is cheaper and faster than the alternative, and for most disputes about a plugin licence it is the sensible venue.
Individual claims only: claims may be brought only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding.
If that limit is unenforceable for a particular claim under the law that applies to you, it does not apply to that claim, and the rest of this section still does.
Nothing here stops either of us asking a court for an injunction over intellectual property infringement, unauthorised access, or a breach of section 8 — those cannot wait for the process above.
19 Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. Venue is as set out in section 18: the state and federal courts located in Hennepin County, Minnesota.
Our services are operated from the United States. If you use them from elsewhere, you are responsible for complying with your local law.
20 Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, and will change the “last updated” date when we do. For material changes we will give at least 30 days’ notice through the website or our Discord. Continuing to use the services after a change takes effect means you accept it. Changes do not apply retroactively to a dispute that already arose.
21 General
- →These terms, the Privacy Policy and any product-specific terms are the whole agreement between us.
- →If any provision is unenforceable it is narrowed or severed, and the rest stays in force.
- →Not enforcing something once does not waive it.
- →You may not assign these terms; we may assign them to a successor in a merger or sale of assets.
- →There are no third-party beneficiaries except the people we indemnify.
- →We are not liable for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, including outages at Steam, Discord, Facepunch or our hosting providers.
- →Notices to you may be given by website posting, Discord announcement or email. Notices to us go to the contact in section 1.
1 Scope
This policy covers paradoxlabs.dev, our Discord community, our plugins and licensing system, our marketplace, and any other software or service Paradox Labsoperates. “We” means Paradox Labs.
It does not cover:
- →Steam, Discord, Facepunch, our payment processors or our hosting providers — each has its own policy governing what they collect;
- →servers run by other people using plugins licensed from us (section 5);
- →an independent marketplace developer's own handling of their customers' data (section 4).
We collect as little as we can. We do not want your real name, home address, government ID, or financial account numbers, and we do not ask for them.
2 What we collect
2.1 What you give us
- →Discord account — user id, username, avatar — when you sign in or join our server. This is how you are identified.
- →Steam ID, when you supply one so a licence can be delivered.
- →Email address, from sign-in or a support conversation, for receipts and replies.
- →Support tickets, appeals, bug reports and anything else you write to us.
- →Purchase details — what was bought, the amount, the currency, a timestamp and a transaction reference. Our processors give us a partial card identifier or a PayPal email; we never see or store a full card number.
- →Content you post: Discord messages, screenshots, feedback.
- →If you apply to sell: your answers on the application form, your display name, and the payment account identifier you connect.
2.2 What we collect automatically
- →IP address, for security, abuse prevention and approximate region.
- →Website usage — pages viewed, referrer, browser and device type.
- →Licence activity — activations, hardware identifiers where a product is hardware-licensed, and download timestamps. This is how activation limits are enforced.
- →API usage, where you use an API key: which key, which product, and when.
- →Discord message content in our server, where our bot processes it for moderation and support.
Voice is not recorded. Do not put sensitive information into a ticket or a chat message; if you do, it may end up in our logs, and we will delete it if you ask.
3 How we use it
- →Running the service — signing you in, delivering purchases, issuing and validating licences, serving downloads.
- →Payments — completing transactions, sending receipts, handling refunds and disputes.
- →Support — answering tickets, reissuing licences, reviewing appeals.
- →Safety and integrity — detecting licence sharing, redistribution, fraud, chargeback abuse and unauthorised access.
- →Reviewing marketplace builds before release.
- →Improving what we make — which products are used, which bugs recur.
- →Telling you things you need to know — outages, breaking changes, policy updates, and where you opted in, announcements.
- →Meeting our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Automated checks may flag an account for review, but a consequential decision — a ban, a revoked licence, a declined application — involves a person, and you can appeal it.
4 Marketplace sellers and their customers
When you buy a plugin from an independent developer on our marketplace, that developer is paid directly and is the seller. For the personal information involved in their sale — what their payment processor collects, how they handle a refund, what they do with your contact details when you ask them for support — that developer is the data controller, not us, and their own privacy practices apply.
We hold what our own systems record: that a purchase happened, which product, when, and the licence issued for it. That is what lets us serve your download and support your licence.
If you sell here, we hold your application answers, your display name, your payment account identifier and your membership billing records — described everywhere else in this policy. We do not receive your customers’ payment details.
5 Servers run by other people
When somebody licenses one of our plugins and runs it on their own Rust server, the data that plugin handles — player IDs, balances, logs — lives on their server, under their control. They are the data controller for it.
Our plugins contain no telemetry and do not send player data back to us. What we hold about a licensee is described in section 2; we hold nothing about that licensee’s players.
7 How long we keep it
One rule, with one exception: we keep things for 180 days, and longer only where the law requires it or where the record is the enforcement itself. Where a different period applies below, that is the reason.
- →Account and licence data — while your account is active, then 180 days after last use.
- →Purchase and transaction records — for as long as tax, accounting and financial record-keeping law requires, which is longer than 180 days and is not our choice.
- →Support tickets and appeals — 180 days after they are resolved.
- →Discord message and moderation logs — 180 days, or longer where tied to an open investigation or an active ban.
- →IP and connection logs — 180 days.
- →Marketplace applications, approved or not — kept, because they are the record of why somebody was let in.
- →Ban records — kept indefinitely, so a ban can be enforced and evasion detected.
- →Act-as records, where an admin viewed the site as a seller — kept indefinitely, since the point of that log is the question somebody asks much later.
Deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 180 days and is removed on the normal rotation.
8 Security
We use TLS everywhere, keep card handling entirely with PCI-compliant processors so we never hold card data, store licence keys and API keys as hashes rather than as recoverable secrets, limit staff access to what a role needs, and log administrative actions.
No system is perfectly secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect your own Discord and Steam accounts and turn on two-factor authentication. If a breach affects your information we will tell you and any required authority without undue delay.
10 Your rights
Wherever you live, you may ask us to:
- →tell you what we hold about you;
- →correct anything inaccurate;
- →delete it, subject to the exceptions below;
- →give you a copy in a portable format;
- →stop sending you marketing, at any time.
Ask at discord.paradoxlabs.dev, including your Discord or Steam ID so we can find your records. We must verify it is you, usually by asking you to message from the linked Discord account. We reply within 45 days and will say if we need longer. There is no charge, and asking will never get you worse service.
California, and other US states with comprehensive privacy laws. You have the rights above, plus the right to know the categories we collect, where they came from, why, and who we disclose them to — all of which are sections 2, 3 and 6. We have not sold or shared personal information in the past twelve months, and we do not knowingly sell or share the information of anyone under 16. We collect no sensitive personal information, so there is nothing to limit. If we refuse a request you may appeal by replying with “Privacy Appeal”; if we refuse the appeal you may contact your state Attorney General.
What we may keep despite a deletion request: records needed to complete a transaction, tax and accounting records, evidence needed to detect fraud or enforce a ban, and anything needed to defend a legal claim. We will tell you which applies and delete the rest.
11 Children
Our services are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If we learn we have, we delete it and close the account. Parents and guardians can contact us at discord.paradoxlabs.dev.
12 International users
We operate from the United States and your information is processed there, which may have different protections than your own country. If you are in the UK, EEA or another region with comprehensive data protection law, contact us and we will honour the rights that apply to us; where required we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism.
13 Changes
We will change the “last updated” date when we revise this policy, and give at least 30 days’ notice of a material change — a new category of data, a new purpose, or a new kind of recipient — through the website or our Discord. Where the law requires consent, we will ask.
14 Contact
Any privacy question, request or complaint goes to discord.paradoxlabs.dev. Include your Discord or Steam ID so we can find your records. If you are unhappy with our answer you may contact your state Attorney General or, outside the US, your local data protection authority.
See also our Terms of Service.
Questions about any of this go to discord.paradoxlabs.dev. See also our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
